November 4, 2005 Bulletin: The NWPPCOS system was down from October 31 to November 4 due to server issues. In accordance with an Operating Committee decision in early 2004, NWPPCOS data has not been backed up. Fortunately, we are able to host the system on other servers and to restore data from February 2005. While we may be able to retrieve data from the failed server, there is no guarantee and in all likelihood most data will probably have to be recreated. We will provide a more comprehensive status update early next week.

The Operating Committee recently voted to move the NWPPCOS system to a third party vendor server and to enhance the features of the system. In addition to upgrading the server hardware, the new hosting services provider will provide NWPP staff with superior technical support and will implement regular back up of the data stored on the NWPPCOS system. The measures being undertaken will help significantly reduce both the likelihood and the negative impact of a system outage like that we have just experienced.
